Forming a close working relationship with the parents of our students is a key part of ³ÉÈËÍ·Ìõ’s strategy for ensuring our students are happy and successful in their time with us.
As such, we aim to ensure that our communication with parents is:
- Clear
- Timely
- Two-way
We use a variety of channels to talk to parents. These include electronic forms, such as the College website, the e-newsletter and Cedar, as well as traditional print-based forms such as letters home or publicity material. In all of these we strive to ensure that the same messages and expectations are being communicated clearly. Key pieces of information about term dates, course details and college policies are written in an easy-to-understand style.
Timely
We work hard at making sure that the information you receive arrives in good time. For example, we send letters home before taking students on trips and publicise unexpected news like snow days as soon as possible via every channel available.
Two-way
We want communication with parents to be a two-way process. That’s way it’s now easier than ever before to get in touch with your son or daughter’s teachers via Cedar, or to contact the College about illness or concerns.
Intervention
Our formal intervention procedures have been designed to ensure consistently high standards of behaviour, achievement and attendance. Subject teachers and progress tutors work together to ensure timely interventions are implemented to support students where necessary. Formal interventions also provide teachers and tutors the opportunity to hold 1:1 meetings and agree targets to improve student performance.
Channels: How do we communicate with parents?
We have a number of communication channels with parents. These include:
Cedar
This online system allows you to check your son or daughter’s attendance and performance, as well as reading their pastoral logs. It contains the very latest up-to-date information on how our students are getting on in their lessons, and allows parents to email teachers directly. If you have any problem accessing Cedar, please email: ITHelpdesk@ncdoncaster.ac.uk
Website
Still the most convenient one-stop-shop for all information about College life, be it publicity, policies or personnel.
Social Media
Our social media accounts are a great way of keeping up to date with all of our latest news and events. They can be found at:
Moodle
This is our VLE [Virtual Learning Environment] where you’ll be able to find out more detailed information about the courses your son or daughter is taking:Â
Letters
As well as the electronic communication mentioned above, we also send letters home.
